The services have been announced for Knoxville Police Department Detective Mel Pierce, who passed away on Thursday, April 2 following a months-long battle with cancer.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church at 701 Merchant Drive with the service to follow at approximately 7 p.m.
At around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, KPD Motors Officers will lead a procession from Wallace Memorial to Woodlawn Cemetery at 4500 Woodlawn Pike, where the graveside service will be held at 1 p.m.
Residents are invited to line the procession route and pay their respects to Detective Pierce. The procession will turn out of Wallace Memorial east on Merchant Drive, continue onto Cedar Lane and turn south on Broadway Street. The procession will continue on Broadway to Henley Street then Chapman Highway before turning onto Woodlawn Pike.
The KPD appreciates the community’s love and support for Detective Pierce, who served KPD and Knoxville with courage and compassion for 30 years.
